You don't have to be a CPA to run your business, but you do need to have a basic understanding of your numbers and how they impact your business.
In order to understand where you are headed, you need to pay attention to what drives your business. Looking at your key performance indicators (KPI's) acts as a guide to help you progress towards your long term business goals.
One way to stay on top of your financial KPIs is to do something we like to call "Take 5 at 5." At 5:00 (or whenever your day happens to end) take five minutes to look over your numbers.

Current Ratio
Accounts Receivable (A/R) aging

Taking just a few minutes a day to look over your KPI's can make all the difference to your business.
