Note from Monica
Federal Reserve Bank Chairman Ben Bernanke recently suggested that the recession will “probably” end in 2009. Remember the old song, “Happy days are here again. The skies above are clear again. So let’s sing a song of cheer again. Happy days are here again!”
Well, maybe not quite yet. 2009 still shows some challenges.
Demand for capital goods continues to fall (keep inventories low, watch accounts receivable closely). The U.S. auto industry still struggles impacting suppliers (diversify your customer base). Consumers remain cautious as unemployment grows, decreasing consumer purchases (monitor cash, keep the flow positive).
A friend once said about business, “You have to keep your head in the game.” That’s painfully obvious. Whatever your business’ financial condition is, ignoring it could put you out of business. Know your numbers! If you don’t like them, brainstorm some improvements. Ask others to help.

We’re moving through a business cycle trough, and happy days will be here again. Know where your business is now; rate its key metrics. This will help you prepare for opportunity before it arrives.
